Power distribution cabinets, control cabinets, and MCCs in industrial workshops are far more demanding to maintain than those in office buildings. They operate in noisy, high-temperature, dusty environments with dense wiring, and they're often located right next to production lines—any downtime means real financial losses. A single hour of downtime on an auto parts production line can cost hundreds of thousands; a control cabinet trip on a chemical processing line can ruin an entire batch of products.
Electrical fire risks in factories are concentrated in several areas: MCC cabinets carry motor loads continuously, with frequent contactor switching making contact wear and arcing common hazards; production line control cabinets integrate PLCs, frequency converters, and servo drives with tight wiring and limited heat dissipation; and power distribution cabinets in raw material warehouses operate in relatively enclosed spaces where poor ventilation and dust accumulation raise short-circuit risks.
These types of hazards share a common challenge—early symptoms are hidden. The degree of contact wear on contactors is invisible without opening the cabinet and disassembling them; aging and cracking cable insulation may show only slight discoloration on the outside while internal carbonization has already begun. Traditional inspections rely on visual checks and infrared thermometer scans, limited by inspection frequency and cabinet enclosure, resulting in insufficient coverage and timeliness.
Deployment Logic
EAPD is installed directly inside power distribution cabinets. The core difference from conventional fire protection solutions is that it operates in the same space where fires originate. Sensors are placed against terminal blocks and busbars—when parameters such as abnormal temperature or arc signals exceed thresholds, the device completes fire suppression within the enclosed cabinet, without relying on external system integration. The entire process from detection to suppression completes in milliseconds, and external personnel may not even be aware that an anomaly occurred.
Agent discharge does not affect adjacent equipment. FLOURGUARD medium is non-conductive and residue-free, so production lines require no shutdown for cleanup or maintenance after discharge. For continuous manufacturing enterprises, this means fire protection no longer triggers mandatory line shutdowns for inspection—equipment continues running while hazards are addressed on-site.
Deployment and Maintenance
EAPD features a modular design—one unit per cabinet, secured by magnetic mounting. Factories can deploy units during scheduled maintenance windows. Installation typically takes about 15 minutes per cabinet and requires no modification to existing wiring. After deploying multiple cabinets, trigger parameters and alarm contacts can be configured centrally on the ICOP platform.
Operating data and alarm records from all devices are automatically archived through the ICOP platform. Safety managers can check the status of every distribution point across the entire factory on their mobile phones, and export quarterly temperature rise trend reports. For safety ledgers and hazard inspection records, this data can serve directly as supporting evidence—which cabinet experienced temperature fluctuations, when they occurred, how long they lasted, and whether normal conditions were restored—all with timestamped records. This is highly valuable for safety audits and insurance claims assessments.
Comparison with Traditional Solutions
The most common electrical fire prevention method in factories today is an electrical fire monitoring system combined with handheld fire extinguishers. Monitoring systems can detect leakage current and abnormal cable temperatures and trigger audible and visual alarms, but after the alarm, personnel must go to the scene with extinguishers to confirm and respond. If an incident occurs at night or during unmanned hours, the time gap between alarm and arrival is long enough for a fire to spread from inside the cabinet to the outside. EAPD combines alarm and response in a single device—cabinet anomalies are handled directly inside the cabinet, without depending on personnel arrival. For night-shift production or unmanned workshops, this is a capability that smoke detectors and electrical fire monitoring systems cannot match.
